From Silence to Song
A Family Journey through the Promises of Advent

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed his people.”
Luke 1:68

Introduction

For centuries, God’s people waited in silence. No prophet spoke. No new word came. But even in the quiet, God was still at work . . . preparing the world for the moment when His Word would break through again.

When that silence finally ended, it did so in a symphony of grace. Angels sang over fields. An old priest whispered a blessing. A young mother lifted her voice in praise. The world that had waited in darkness began to sing again.

From Silence to Song captures both the literary arc and the emotional journey of Advent . . . the story that moves from waiting to worship, from promise to praise, from longing to light. It follows the unfolding melody of Luke 1–2, where God’s silence gives way to speech, and His Word takes on flesh.

This devotional invites your family to walk through that story together. Each week traces a step in God’s unfolding plan, moving from Promise to Prophecy to Fulfillment, and finally to Mission. Through six daily readings each week, you’ll encounter the God who keeps His Word, who speaks through His prophets, who brings His salvation in Christ, and who sends His light to the nations.

Designed for households of all ages, these devotionals are simple enough for young ones to grasp yet rich enough to nourish older ones who long to see the beauty of Christ afresh. Each day includes a Scripture reading, a reflection, discussion prompts, and a short prayer... helping your home listen together for the God who still turns silence into song.

How to Use This Devotional

From Silence to Song is designed to help your family slow down and draw near to Christ during the Advent season. Each day offers a simple rhythm of Scripture, reflection, and prayer that captures both the literary arc and emotional journey of the Advent story . . . from waiting to worship, from silence to song.

You’ll walk through four weeks of readings, following the same pattern as our Sunday gatherings:
  1. Promise: God always keeps His Word (Luke 1:5–38)
  2. Prophecy: As He spoke by the prophets (Luke 1:39–56, 67–79)
  3. Fulfillment: Good news of great joy (Luke 2:1–38)
  4. Mission: A light for the nations (Luke 2:29–52)

Each week includes six daily devotionals, preparing your heart for worship on Sunday.

Daily Rhythm

Each devotional is brief (about 5–7 minutes) and follows a simple pattern your family can grow into together:
  • Read the day’s Scripture aloud.
  • Reflect through the short devotional thought.
  • Respond to the two discussion prompts: one for Young Ones, one for Older Ones.
  • Pray using the simple prayer provided.
  • (Optional) Practice an act of remembrance or worship (a candle lighting, song, or simple gesture of gratitude).

For Every Household

This devotional is written for families in every season of life . . . young and old, single or married, children in the home or grown and gone. The Young Ones / Older Ones questions are simply a way to help everyone engage together. The goal isn’t to finish quickly but to linger in wonder, and to listen again for the God who still speaks, and to join the song of those who have seen His salvation.
